Augmented Reality and Route Navigation
Siemense VDO is working on an Augmented Reality Route Navigator. The car navigation map is overlaid on the “meatspace” reality. A picture from the Siemense website explains the principle.

According to Siemens ‘orientation at the first glance is the aim of “augmented reality vehicle navigation,” allowing the driver to concentrate fully on the traffic even in an unfamiliar town.’ A more recent article on AR and Route Navigation came in from the BBC, which talks about a headset for the driver which projects information in the user’s field of view. Interesting developments.
All my MA research logs are part of a work in progress and can not be distributed, copied, displayed or performed.

Wow- I just listed “5 ways to use augmented reality in the near future” at http://everythang.wordpress.com/2006/10/19/5-ways-to-use-augmented-reality-in-the-near-future/ and this is not in it!
I see this as an application of the AR technology that is quite cheap and feasible. Look forward to seeing this in real life.
Cheers.
